“Drinkable now, but has the structure for the cellar. Grown in a Forestville vineyard from modern Dijon clones, it’s very fruity, offering clean, pure flavors of cherries, raspberries, blueberries and spices. The cool climate contributes fresh, zesty acidity, but the tannins are considerable. Beautiful now with decanting, and should (continue to) develop.”

“Similar to the excellent 2005, this bottling needs time in the cellar to let the fruit, tannins, acids and oak knit together. Tasted in early winter of 2009, it’s fresh and dramatic, with ripe flavors of cherries, raspberries, currants, cola, licorice, orange zest and cedar.”

“Deep and optimally ripened, black cherry fruit is the star of the show here, yet it is supported
by lots of complementary, mildly caramelly oak and is accented by subtle touches of dried flowers.  A solid and well-structured Pinot with plenty of meat on its bones.”

“On release, this pinot was brawny, brash and concentrated. Its 9-year-old cousin bottle served tonight was amazing. It still had all the fruit and complexity, but a bit more mellow and round. Served with Coq au Vin, it was a real treat. Merry’s winemaking makes this older Pinot a true treasure.”
