2011 Georganne Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Comments

Our youngest producing vineyard, Georganne, continues to delight us with the beautiful grapes and wines it produces. Located on Westside Road, at the very northern tip of Russian River Valley, it seems to receive inspiration from its famous older neighbors, Rochioli and Williams Selyem. Planted in 2006, the intensity and depth of the wine it produces belies its youth, except for its wonderful, exuberant personality!

This wine’s opening salvo is a mouthwatering, concentrated fragrance of black cherry with an attractive smoky, toasty edge. With gentle aeration, deep layers of rich, dark fruit continue to unfold in the form of ripe blueberries, lingonberries and black raspberries accented with mocha, licorice and freshly ground espresso. In the mouth, this luscious Pinot is plush with velvety tannins creating a nonstop finish of excellent length.

Yuichi Seki created Blood Orange Duck and Asian Themed Potatoes as an ideal companion for our Georganne Pinot. The exotic blend of ingredients in the sauce and the rich, caramelized onion-laced potatoes set off this wine exquisitely. When I kitchen-tested this creation, steamed, buttered asparagus was served as an accompaniment. For her submission, Yuichi will receive full credit for her original recipe, recognition on our website and a signed magnum. Visit www.merryedwards.com to try this dish at home.

Critical Acclaim

"Rock star. A pinot with depth and a great concentration of fruit. Striking notes of blackberry, dried cherry, herbs and spice. Lush, fleshy texture. Complex. This wine is a great stand-alone pinot and would be a good one to savor later, well after the feast."
