2012 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Comments

This wine combines grapes from six different vineyards located across the range of Russian River Valley. Once our vineyard-designate blends are composed, the remaining declassified lots find a home in this wine. Placement is dependent on the individual profile of each lot of wine produced. This blend epitomizes the core personality of the entire Russian River Valley -- deep, kaleidoscopic fruit and a broad palate. These characteristics are created by the well-drained soils and the coastal fog intrusion unique to our region.

On first impression, the aroma is pure fruit -- fresh blackberry, dark plum, black raspberry and huckleberry. Add to this currants, strawberry jam, cassis and cherry pie. Sarsaparilla, Lapsang Souchong tea, cocoa, roasted-toasty oak and a bit of vanilla bean round out this Pinot’s complex persona.

Expectation is high and the palate does not disappoint. The ripe fruit entry flows to a full, weighty mouthfeel. The finish is firm, with sufficient acidity to create a backbone that deserves aging.

Critical Acclaim

93 points

"A blend from several of the producer’s finest vineyards, including Georganne, Flax, Olivet Lane and Klopp, this offers complex notes of smoky lavender and licorice. Velvety texture underlies mouth-coating flavors of blackberry jam, pomegranate and cardamom, finishing tartly in acidity." Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, June 2017

"Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley has expressive black cherry and black raspberry notes with hints of violets, underbrush and yeast extract. Medium-bodied, plush and juicy in the mouth, it has a lively backbone and great length." Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate, April 28, 2017
