2014 Meredith Estate Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Comments

This beautiful vineyard is a star in our portfolio, taking its place as the “oldest child” in our family of estate vineyards here in Russian River Valley. Now 18 years old, she has reached maturity and can be looked up to by our younger plantings. Meredith presents a fine example of our dedicated and careful farming – her grapes make richer and more substantial wines each harvest.

This garnet-hued beauty dazzles us from the outset with generous brambleberry fruit, blackberry liqueur, ripe blue plums, blueberries, cherries and black currants. This opening salvo is followed by savory charcuterie and chanterelles, caramel, cocoa, anise, fennel and white pepper.

White roses, wild strawberries, raspberries, framboise liqueur, cinnamon and vanilla drift over like an echo onto the palate. Its big entry displays ripe tannins, while the body is lush, bold and powerful. This Pinot is juicy and approachable, yet lengthens and broadens, building intensity through the dynamic, extended finish. As with previous vintages, this wine benefits and rewards the patient collector as it unfolds over time.

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Meredith Estate has a medium ruby-purple color and gorgeous fragrance of red roses, lavender and fallen leaves over a core of crushed cranberries, mulberries and raspberry tart plus a touch of allspice. The medium-bodied palate is taut, youthful and finely structured, with the ripe, very fine grained tannins beautifully framing the multilayered berry and earth flavors, finishing long with loads of freshness and expressiveness." "From one of the producer’s older vineyard sites, fully mature and steady, this wine shines in cranberry, rhubarb and strawberry before finding richer, riper streaks of blueberry and blackberry. Generous tannin is seasoned by layers of piquant cinnamon and vanilla. It’s lush and bold." Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, June 2017

"The pick of an exceptional litter at this stage, Merry Edwards’ Meredith Estate Pinot Noir says wow! It’s a wonderfully complex mixture of dark fruit and savory flavors. Both glossy and chewy (in a nice way) its contrasts continue to captivate throughout a meal. It delivers New World opulence without a hint of exaggeration or flamboyance."
