2016 Olivet Lane Pinot Noir
Merry began making Pinot from this vineyard in the mid-1980s, when she first met the owner, Bob Pellegrini. A decade later, she made his family’s first Olivet Lane Pinot Noir for his own brand. When she started the Merry Edwards brand in 1997, Bob offered her a small amount of grapes from the property, allowing her to make our first single-vineyard Pinot.
A complex, showy and exciting wine, its aroma is packed with baked cherry pie, dark blackberry jam and cherry cordial. Profuse scents of violet, lavender and red roses add elegance and depth. Savory hints of olive tapenade, cola, black pepper and rich French oak complete the portrait. Sweet fruit expands warmly and aromatically on the palate. This Pinot is profoundly mouthwatering with richness that builds, balanced by classic Russian River Valley acidity — it begs to be paired with food.
"The 2016 Pinot Noir Olivet Lane is medium to deep ruby-purple with a youthfully subdued nose opening to violet, blackberry jam, blueberry, bay leaf, earth and herbs hints. Medium to full-bodied, it has dark savory fruit, fine grainy tannins and great freshness to lift the finish. Give this more time in bottle or a good decant." Erin Brooks, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 30, 2019
"Broadly fleshy and expansive on the palate, this is a lovely, powerful wine, spicy in forest pine and clove. Succulent on the midpalate, it offers an array of well-defined citrus and wild strawberry, with a lingering quality to the finish that impresses in rose petal and lavender." Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, December 2018
"Tightly wound, with a mix of loamy earth and dried berry flavors amid sage and cedar notes. This doesn't move beyond that stage for now but time may help." James Laube, Wine Spectator, Aug. 31, 2018
