2015 Meredith Estate Pinot Noir
As our foundation vineyard, Meredith Estate holds star status in our portfolio of Pinots. The intensive farming care we give this steeply sloping property in the Sebastopol Hills is paid back with ample rewards each harvest. In the years since planting in 1998, the ever increasing depth, richness and complexity of these wines continue to astound us.
The depth of color in this 2015 vintage portends an opulent Pinot, packed with dark brambleberry fruit, black cherry and laced with highly perfumed fraise du bois, grown on the forest floor. Scents of David Austin blood-red roses, creamy milk chocolate and warm spices − nutmeg and cardamom – complete its intense and unrestrained aroma.
The palate is velvety smooth following an enticing, generous entry. Lithe and muscular, this Pinot’s texture is well-proportioned and the acidity is bright and balanced. The tannins are refined and elegant yet lavish, creating a full, sustained finish. Delicious, lingering impressions are of savory mushrooms, caramel, cassis and lovely toasty oak. The complete, delectable profile fine-tunes this wine for a long, successful future.
"Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir Meredith Estate opens with pronounced black raspberries, black cherries and violets scents with touches of chocolate box, anise, black soil and oolong tea plus a touch of cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied with a firm foundation of grainy tannins and lively freshness, it has a wonderfully expressive core of black berries and floral notions, finishing with great persistence. Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2018
"Over the years the Meredith Estate has been one of the most reliable big guns in the Merry Edwards arsenal. The 2015 vintage is yet another in an enviable string of successes. Showing notes of bright raspberry and black cherry, this vintage is more fruit-driven than some, but without losing the structure and depth that set Merry Edwards Pinot Noirs apart. Robust and full-bodied, with inviting aromas of wood spice, this is a brilliant wine for tonight or you could lay it down in the cellar and properly age it for another five to seven years." Robert Whitley, Wine Review Online, Jan. 2, 2018
"Soft, velvety, lush and broad, this is a full-figured, darkly brooding wine, steeped in concentrated flavors of strawberry and blackberry. Baked bread, milk chocolate and rose petals accent it well, with supportive, measured oak adding a touch of toast." Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, March 2018
