Merry Edwards Wines

Windsor Gardens

A developer removed the old vines after the 2003 harvest to make way for new homes. Merry was privileged to make Windsor Gardens Pinot Noirs for five vintages, beginning in 1999. She considered these bottlings to be among the most penetrating, intense and collectible wines she produced.

"Ms Edwards’ Windsor Gardens bottlings have been perennial CGCW favorites, and so again the vineyard walks away with very high scores. Deep, dense and brimming with wonderfully well-defined Pinot fruit, it sports the luxuriant texture that comes only with first-rate workings of the grape."

"Very complete from start to finish with a concentrated core of ripe, firm black cherry, blackberry, nutmeg, herb and olive notes, holding its focus and showing a firm structure, with a finish that takes you back to the firm, vibrant flavors it starts with."

"Always among the deepest of the Edwards Pinots, and often the leader of the vintage, the Windsor Gardens bottling scoops the competition again for its fully fruited, well-stuffed, optimally ripened aromas of cherries tinged with dried violets and crème brulée oak. It is velvety and balanced on the palate with inviting, still nascent flavors leading to a long, slightly youthfully tight finish and a touch of alcoholic heat. Yet, time in the bottle is all that is needed to see this exceptional wine grow and get even better yet"
