Merry Edwards Wines

Vintage 20

Vintage 20 celebrates our 20-year journey making Merry Edwards Pinot Noir. Appropriately it contains individual lots of wine from each of our producing estate vineyards: Coopersmith, Georganne, Meredith Estate and Warrens’ Hill. This big, bold Pinot is designed to develop for many years and so will continue to reveal endless layers of complexity with time.

"A barrel selection of the four estate vineyards -- Meredith Estate, Warrens' Hill, Coopersmith and Georganne -- and it’s a stunner. It’s a massively structured wine that looks to be worthy of twenty more years in the bottle, but it’s such a delight now it’ll likely never make that journey in your cellar. Merry Edwards captures her own journey in a beautiful way, with touches of the full spectrum of stylistic variables weaving in and out of your senses and challenging you to describe all that’s there. My descriptors would be unfair to tasters -- this is a wine to savor and receive wherever you are on your journey in wine, and to bear witness to a true master of the craft. Brava!"

"This 20th anniversary cuvee is a blend of four different vineyards in the Russian River Valley. It's a celebration in a glass, with richly layered black and red fruits; hints of wood spice and forest floor; and fine, beautifully integrated tannins. It's a fitting tribute to California's queen of pinot noir."

"This special bottling, a blend of the best barrels from selected vineyards, celebrates Merry Edwards’ 20th vintage under her name. Aside from the sheer deliciousness of the wine, it makes an important point -- single vineyard wines are not always superior to those made from a blend of several vineyards. The densest and most brooding of her 2016 Pinot Noirs, it is still not overdone or over the top. It delivers an alluring combination of dark fruit flavors, dark minerality and spice. Even though all her 2016s have a lovely texture, this one is the most velvety and refined. The contrast between the power and elegance is extraordinary. It’s the one wine in her line up of 2016 Pinot Noirs that I would suggest cellaring for a couple of years at least to allow its flavors to unfold. But, hey, there are four others you can drink while waiting for this one."

"This special anniversary-edition Pinot Noir offers a one-of-a-kind, kaleidoscopic personality shaped by the melding of five vineyards, eight clones, and 12 lots. The effort pays off with a bouquet of ripening blackberry fields, berry compote, and warm plum clafoutis. The palate, smooth and round on the entry, is powerful yet supple with a balanced acid profile and lush notes of dried fig, sarsaparilla, and a lingering toastiness. It culminates in a smooth and juicy finish with elegant cherry and silky texture."

"A celebration of the producer's deep history in winemaking, this sources from several of Merry Edwards' well-known estates, including Meredith, Coopersmith and Georganne. Thick and savory in blue fruit and smoky wood, it is a rich, rounded wine with great complexity, the tannins firm and structured."

"Commemorates the 20th anniversary of Merry’s eponymous brand. A selection of the most luscious barrels from each of the winery’s estate vineyards: Coopersmith, Georganne, Meredith Estate and Warrens’ Hill. It is primarily composed of UCD 37 clone, with a small percentage of 667 and the progeny of Windsor Gardens. Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. This is a super ripe, sweet, compote-like, bold wine with aromas of crushed dark berries, blackberry reduction, leather saddle and Eastern spices. Intensely flavored boysenberry and blackberry fruits are framed by husky tannins that envelope the fruit. There is plenty of lavish, vanilla-laced oak infusion. The finish is extremely long and generously endowed with purple fruits but is somewhat astringent."

"Crunchy and juicy, filled with fresh-crushed cherry, raspberry and plum flavors that are supported by zesty acidity. Asian spice and hot stone notes linger on the savory finish."

"The 2016 Merry Edwards ‘Russian River Valley Vintage 20’ Pinot Noir marks the 20th vintage (of the winery). This barrel selection wine was sourced from the Coopersmith, Georganne, Meredith Estate and Warrens’ Hill Vineyards. The nose shows copious red fruits with cola, citrus rind and tar accents. The palate shows some serious weight, as the wine unveils a silky texture that wonderfully coats the mid-palate. Cigar ash, black tea, wild blackberry cobbler and cran-pomegranate favors all collide and show some serious range. A long-ager, enjoy this beautiful bottling over the next fifteen plus years. Drink 2018-2033."

    • "This wine celebrates Merry’s 20th year producing Merry Edwards wines. And it is a stunner: velvety in texture, rich in flavor, and extremely well balanced (‘seamless’), it displays layers of complexity (blueberry, baked cherry, black licorice, kola nut, tobacco, spicy oak), and a very long, lingering finish. First rate. Can be aged."
